CBMDA Distance Learning

The China Britain Medical and Dental Academy, in partnership with The Academy of Dental Excellence London, has developed a distance learning resource to support good clinical practice.

CBMDA the Academy's Distance Learning supports the training programme for aesthetic dentistry, orthodontics and implant dentistry and is aimed at general dentists. The e-learning will also appeal to consultants, non-consultant career grades and allied dental professionals who want to increase and update their knowledge base.

Overview

 

China Britain Medical and Dental Academy's Distance Learning Programme in Aesthetic Dentistry is an innovative programme that will give you the skills and knowledge to provide high-quality functional dental restorations with optimal aesthetic value. The Advanced Programme is a part-time, one-year clinical and didactic course of study offered to dentists from countries other than the United Kingdom who seek to improve their clinical skills and knowledge in the field of aesthetic dentistry. Emphasis is placed on the clinical component with a focus on a broad spectrum of modern aesthetic treatment methods.

The main aims of the course are: 

  • To provide an innovative programme that enhances current knowledge and clinical skills in aesthetic restorative dentistry. 

  • To present sound academic theory and high-quality practical training in aesthetic concepts by world-class mentors. 

  • To provide students with the confidence and ability to enhance their current clinical practise by incorporating the latest advances in technology and research ensuring aesthetic, functional and long-lasting restorative care. 

  • To deliver learning using the latest technology enabling students to access the course regardless of place or time zone whilst maintaining their dental practices.

Structure

 

The participant's knowledge and skills in aesthetic dentistry are developed through lectures, seminars, case presentations, research and clinical experiences. A great portion of the programme is dedicated to hands-on experiences in the clinic. Participants will address the aesthetic needs of patients in a comprehensive care environment. They will learn interpersonal relationship skills to maximise their successful interactions with patients, peers and other healthcare professionals. Participants are expected to be actively involved in research.

Completion

  • Assessments take the form of Short Answer Questions (SAQs), structure essays, clinical case reports and treatment planning exercises 

  • Clinical details and photographic evidence of cases treated in practice form the basis of case reports 

  • Structured essays and Short Answer Questions are posted online and students normally have two weeks to complete and submit 

  • Single best answer and reflective questions are used throughout the units as a form of self-assessment

Entry requirements

Qualification and employment status

  • A dental qualification is acceptable to China Britain Medical and Dental Academy.

  • Employment as a dentist in a dental practice, dental school, hospital, or community dental services environment.

 

Access to facilities and equipment

  • Adequate clinical facilities and access to patients requiring treatment relevant to your subject area.

  • Approved video equipment, as part of the monitoring process (advice on this will be given in the first Intensive Face-to-Face course).

 

English requirements should be any of the following:

  • IELTS (overall score of 6.5, with 6.0 in the Writing and Speaking modules)

  • Chinese students attending clinical days will require an appropriate travel visa according to CBMDA regulations. Further advice is obtainable via CBMDA International Students Adviser under CBMDA Services

Learning and teaching

 

You will be taught mostly online through CBMDA's distance teaching platform which provides information, interactive questions, assignments, use of bibliographic databases and reading material. The majority of the learning resources will be online. The programme will combine interactive e-Learning, webinars, live learning and recorded lectures to create an integrated learning programme, using the best of new media and technology. 
The programme is designed to encourage the student to take responsibility for his/her own learning. The emphasis of the MSc is on a self-directed learning approach. 

The type of teaching will be distance online self-directed learning. In addition, activities on this programme will be supplemented by attendance at three residential courses to complete the hands-on portion of the course.
